THE DISCO ERA.....WHAT A PARTY!

I talk about the early 70's because that's the era where I started to develop my dreams. I wanted to be a singer, a performer, an entertainer. Actually, I also wanted to be rich and famous. It's crazy how I developed a strong passion for the arts. I was now in the club scene big time. Gloria Gaynor was the queen of disco then. Soon after, a new diva came into the limelight, that diva was Donna Summer. Oh my goodness, I was actually in love with another woman. Some may call it an obsession, others may now call it straight up stalking.
Donna Summer was actually my idol. She took the world by storm and she owned the throne for many years. There was no one on the planet who didn't know who she was. Donna Sumer crossed over into everyone's radio station with a whole new sound of music. Her producer Giorgio Moroder was brilliant. Donna also dominated the dance club scene. Discos was where you had to be. The only thing we lived for was a good party. That was the ultimate hang.
It didn't matter what music you listened to before because you were going to hear her anyway........all up in your face.

LET'S TAKE IT TO THE DANCE FLOOR

As a kid I was always with my music, even on hand. I had a little portable record player with my 45's and I just carried my music with me. I was not quite a teenager yet when James Brown was the ultimate dance man. Anytime there was a party, I knew that James would take us to the dance floor...... "Taking it to the bridge" is what he called it. Along with his hippin and hollaring and rhythmic beats, James Brown knew how to move. That's why he was also 'The King of Soul' and one of the greatest performers of all time. Well, I can't move the way he does but I could definately shake my booty.

It was the time where I discovered the club scene, discos was the most amazing party. Once I stepped foot into a club, it was over. I was absolutely amazed that a party of this magnitude existed. That's all she wrote, I became a permanent fixture to the dance clubs and the club scene. I had to kinda grow up fast but thank God at the time they never asked for IDs when I was so very young and in the discos. I dressed up older and kinda conducted myself more mature than usual because I always lied about my age (until today) to get into the clubs.

This whole world always inspired me toward the dance and entertainment. Whenever there was a stage in the building I knew that it's where I wanted to be. I've been dreaming about this for a very long time. One day it's going to happen!

AS A KID....A WISH OR A DREAM

Today is my Momma's birthday and I'm dedicating this to her. Becasue of her, the memories that I hold will forever live in me. I can always feel her presence and blessings and I know that she will always be my hero and my #1 fan......I can still see where I come from.
The memories are not only so vivid, but they are also so real. Me and Momma go way back with the biggest passion in my life. The love for the music. The love of entertaining. The love of the dream that I spoke to Momma about at the age of eight. That's when one of the biggest groups of all times was taking over the world......
The Supremes. Momma knew that I wanted to be a singer and a performer one day. When the fam was coming over for a visit, I already knew that there would be a performance that included me and two of my sisters. I, of course, was Diana Ross. I knew all the words to the songs and I was always singing them. If I was going to pretend to be someone, it would be the star that I so admired and was inspired by, then I was also going to be the best.
